25章简直就是斗私批修史，Tara庄园生活的重担全压在Scarlett的身上，当了家长的她对待别人无情暴戾，却也憎恨起以前的奢靡生活。说到底，这些都是生活的苦难让Scarlett喘不过气来。 這一章Scarlett遇到棘手問題時，最常用的思維是“I won't think about it now”，這是挺好的自我保護方式，應該學學。Scarlett的負擔太沉重，沒有比在破壞了的土地上重建新世界更難的事業了，她硬是承擔下來，首先已經對自己狠到極致了。 章末映照前文Gerald對Scarlett宣揚的土地熱愛論，再次點明貫穿《飄》主題的一大思想，土地是最值得人們奮鬥的事物。 “For ‘tis the
only thing in the world that lasts … and to anyone with a drop of Irish blood
in them the land they live on is like their mother. … ‘Tis the only thing worth
working for, fighting for, dying for.” Yes, Tara was
worth fighting for, and she accepted sim-ply and without question the fight. No
one was going to get Tara away from her. No one was going to set her and her
people adrift on the charity of relatives. She would hold Tara, if she had to
break the back of every person on it.
